I’m not a fan of days that are way more of a challenge than usual… As I was chatting earlier, I decided to tidy up by putting the iron away. As a helpful tip - don’t ever turn to answer a question while you push the innocuous little button to retract the iron cord. That plug will whip around and nail you right in the knuckle (as it turns out, snow works almost as good as ice to stave off a bruise!). At that point, it might have been best to stop sewing for the day, but… Next I began cutting fabric so I can share a little stitched sample of our Local Quilt Shop Day pattern handout on Saturday. I started without rereading the directions. Could have sworn all the strips needed to be cut 2 1/2” wide. Nope… I’ve come to the conclusion that everyone needs a quilting buddy. A friend who will tell you it’s time to take a break from sewing, without recommending cleaning the house as the alternative! I’m off to read a book now - how many mistakes can I possibly make while doing that?!

Wishing you fun sewing this week, with no mishaps,

Mary Beth

We are terribly excited to be starting a new pieced Saturday Sampler series! This Saturday (1-25-25) those in the “end of the month” group will meet upstairs in the shop at 9:00am. We will share shop news, an overview of the 2025 project, Star Search, and the kit for the first block in the series. There will be lots of instruction as we begin the project - best to bring paper and pencil for note taking!!! Please note - there is parking in both the front and back of the shop. Please be careful in the lots as there will be lots of cars. Hopefully the weather will cooperate (I’m hoping for no ice!).

Those in our Stash Management club will also meet on Saturday. The 10:30am meeting will be packed with information and inspiration. We will share some of the new things in the shop that will help you put your sewing goodies into use and we will share a new series pattern. We can’t wait to see your show and tell - you are all so very talented!!!

Local Quilt Shop Day at QC!

Saturday ~ January 25th

Did you know this Saturday is International Local Quilt Shop Day? The fourth Saturday in January is marked as a way to recognize the impact of local quilt shops, and to celebrate the creativity of quilters and sewists. This holiday also kicks off the By Annie's Local Quilt Shop Contest! The contest gives sewists an opportunity to share stories and comments about their favorite shop. You can vote only once for your favorite quilt shop before this year’s contest ends (at the end of February). I hope you will consider us as an option for your vote (keep in mind we are listed as Quilters Corner PA Finleyville PA on the By Annie’s site - no apostrophe in our name!). You can begin voting Saturday, January 25th at LQSContest.com/vote or via their qr code in the shop. And do consider joining us in the shop Saturday - we will share a free pattern handout when you stop in (one that uses fat quarters - we figure you may need a bit of project inspiration after last week’s Fat Quarter Fling!), a demo featuring By Annie’s bag making techniques (stop at our side counter between 12:00pm and 2:00pm to check out the demo), and little treats!

Machine Applique

Saturday ~ February 15th ~ 11:00am-2:00pm

Ruth Ann is a master applique artist and teacher (her version of the first block in our 2024 applique series, shown here, is a marvelous example of her work!). In this technique class she will focus on teaching the details of the technique as you create small sample pieces - everything from machine set up, to the required supplies, to a range of stitches that can be used for the technique. The pieces Ruth Ann’s students share are stunning, yours can be too!

Fee $24.00 (the supply list for the class will be shared when you register)

Please note ~ current shop hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Monday thru Saturday.
