On Sunday our youngest spent a good deal of time putting together Ikea cabinet door units while her Dad put together the shelves that would hold them. They turned out great. Next on her list was a simple console table purchased from a different store. How hard could it be? Well, first was the fifteen minute ordeal of getting it out of the sealed box… The amount of glue used to seal the box was “absurd”, to quote her. Once the two shelves and four legs were out of the box, she moved on to construction. It seemed to start ok, but then she discovered she had one piece backwards and needed to take things apart and begin again. While making the shelving units we had made some unkind comments about the extensively detailed Ikea instructions (pretty much novels!) - maybe they know what they’re doing…  Our messages about table construction started at 9:30, the photo of the finished table arrived about 11:30 - kind of like when quilt pattern directions aren’t quite thorough enough…

Wishing you a week of successful, easy projects,

Mary Beth

This Saturday (11-16-24) those in our applique Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. We will begin the session by looking at new things that have arrived since your last visit and talking about all that is going on in the shop. We will then move on to the next block in the series and another look at the setting for your bold flower blocks. It’s terribly exciting to be this close to the end of the program!

Saturday Sampler Pieced ~ Optional Pieced Border session

November 23rd ~ 12:00pm

When we began the Simpler Times quilt early in the year (our pieced Saturday Sampler for 2024) we shared the 72” x 72” version we are making in the program. Like many historical pieced quilts, the pattern travels all the way to the edge of the quilt, with no additional borders. We mentioned then that a plain border could be added or those making the quilt could opt for a series of pieced fan blocks to surround the center. In a separate session, on the 23rd, we will review what you need to know to make the optional pieced border. We will discuss the fabrics needed and the techniques used to work the border. Please pre-register for the session so we have enough patterns for everyone.

There are lots of neat gift ideas for friends and family around the shop. Some are things you could quickly make, while others are perfect little goodies for the sewists in your crowd. I love the little kit we are offering for Fall Out. The small, 16 1/2” x 16 1/2”, quilt features pieced leaves, sashing, and borders worked in Kim Diehl prints. The kit contains the pattern, and fabrics for the top, binding, and back. It was great fun to make (quick and easy!). It would make a wonderful gift, whether as a finished petite quilt or as a kit!

Kit $19.95

Our From Our Table event ends this Saturday - my how time flies!!! When you visit be sure to remember donations for the local food pantry so you can snag ballots to vote for your favorite display. Each little display showcases the work of one of the shop's staff members. We can’t wait to see which receives the most votes and garners a lucky winner a kit for the piece. Be sure to check back next week to see who made each display - I think in some cases you’ll be surprised!

The Tilda Trunk Show will move on next week (on 11-19-24). I would hate for you to miss a chance to see the amazing pieces made with the Sanctuary collection - each truly is a work of art! You might want to keep in mind that patterns for each of the quilts and pillows can be found at www.tildasworld.com. And, as she is most gracious, they are free.
