I wandered into our kitchen earlier this week and glanced to my left to check the time. Next I let out a little squeak, followed by “Uh oh!” You’d be amazed how quickly I can get from one spot to another in our house… When I got to my sweetie, I explained there was either a really strange leaf, or a huge moth, or some other creature (yuck, yuck, yuck!) on the bottom of the kitchen clock radio. What I saw could best be described as black, with an array of rather pointy spines. Being a calmer person than I, my sweetie pulled out his phone to photograph whatever it was. As it turns out, it was a good thing I noticed the “creature”. His photo showed that the outside of the radio had melted into the unusual shape - a fire, with my adjacent cookbook cabinet as tinder, could have been next! I think my sweetie gets points for not laughing at my creature sighting…

Wishing you a peaceful week with no strange creatures,

Mary Beth

On Saturday (10-5-24) those in our beginning of the month pieced Saturday Sampler program will meet at 9:00am. During the session we will share shop news along with the next block kit in the series. As is often the case, we will review a portion of the pattern that needs a little revision and we will go over the finer points of constructing the block. Be sure to bring your block from last month - it’s so much fun to see how they are coming!

Hurricane Helene has caused widespread damage throughout the Southeast and has substantially impacted mountain towns in North Carolina. To support those impacted, we are hosting a giveaway in the shop this week. We will be collecting monetary donations in the shop, and each donation is an entry in the giveaway for the wonderful goodie basket pictured here. All the funds collected will go to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund. This organization disburses funds to nonprofits working to meet the immediate needs of storm victims such as food and water, cleaning supplies, and other emergency supplies. All of the donations to the NCDRF will go directly to disaster relief. Our thoughts go out to all of those who have been impacted by this tragedy.

The drawing will close Saturday, October 12th.

Introduction to the Bedazzled Project!

Saturday ~ October 5th ~ 10:30am

Several months ago we saw photos of a new sampler design. It was so very different from any others we have seen, we just had to jump right in! The Bedazzled quilt, designed by Pam and Nicky, is made up of nine pieced blocks, pieced sashing, and a pieced outer border. And boy, are the blocks fantastic! The angled seams make the quilt appear to feature curves, but every seam is straight! As we began to work through the piece, we realized there are some spots that could use explanation, or even modification. Thus, our introductory session came to be. During the meeting we will discuss fabric selection (because yes, it could be done in different fabrics!), reading the pattern, cutting for the individual blocks and setting pieces, and we will share tips for accurately stitching the shapes. We hope you will consider the project and consider joining us for the meeting!

Fee ~ free with Bedazzled book purchase at QC

tilda image

Tilda’s newest fabric collection, Sanctuary, is here! Tilda asks where your sanctuary is, and then uses the warm toned prints of the group to offer suggestions. In the group you will find little flowers, trees and tiny animals worked in plum, blue, green, gold and rose. We suggest looking at Tilda’s website to see the prints in use and to gather patterns that use the lovely pieces. We will be hosting a trunk show featuring some of the projects early next month, but don’t wait until then to get yours as many are likely to be gone!

Fabric $15.95 per yard

moda image

Be sure to look for Moda’s Celebrating 50 Years collection when you are in the shop. The group is a collection of 44 iconic Moda fabric designs in a rainbow of color. The unique part about the collection - each bolt contains four different prints running down the length of the fabric. It’s great fun to see how many of the prints we remember and then great fun to put them into use. There is even a contest to go along with the pieces (a contest with wonderful prizes!) - details can be found in the shop and on Moda’s website. Fabric $12.99 per yard
