This Saturday (9-28-24) those in our end of the month pieced Saturday Sampler group will meet at 9:00am. This is your chance to show off the block you’ve created in the last month, and to snag the next block kit in the series. The pieces are really coming along - they are going to make fantastic quilts!  

Aso ~ a new Stash Management series begins this Saturday! Could you use an entire year of inspiration, instruction, and plain old fun? If you’ve answered yes, this series is for you! Over the course of ten sessions (meetings are once a month - we take December and July off) we will focus on what needs to be done to appreciate, organize, and use the goodies in your sewing collection. Each meeting features show and tell, and a pattern to put your fabric in play. The series is just $10.00 - tons of fun, for a most reasonable price!

Block Box Sew Along Show and Tell

Saturday ~ September 28th ~ 12:00pm

At the beginning of the year we offered a Sew Along using the Quilt Builder Card Deck 3. We worked straight through the box, stitching two blocks each week (or as many as each member wished to stitch!). We are starting to see some pretty marvelous quilts made during the sew along, and thought members might want to see what others in the group created. Consider joining us on the 28th - bring what you’ve done, even if you haven’t managed to finish your piece!

Introduction to Bedazzled Project!

Saturday ~ October 5th ~ 10:30am

Several months ago we saw photos of a new sampler design. It was so very different from any others we have seen, we just had to jump right in! The Bedazzled quilt, designed by Pam and Nicky, is made up of nine pieced blocks, pieced sashing, and a pieced outer border. And boy, are the blocks fantastic! The angled seams make the quilt appear to feature curves, but every seam is straight! As we began to work through the piece, we realized there are some spots that could use explanation, or even modification. Thus, our introductory session came to be. During the meeting we will discuss fabric selection (because yes, it could be done in different fabrics!), reading the pattern, cutting for the individual blocks and setting pieces, and we will share tips for accurately stitching the shapes. We hope you will consider the project and consider joining us for the meeting!

We have just unpacked the boxes containing Grand Haven, new from Moda. The vintage inspired prints are the work of Laurie Simpson. I was amazed to learn Laurie has done 65 groups with Moda, many with her sister Polly. Like many of her past collections, the fabrics are offered in reds, whites and blues reminiscent of a summer at the beach. You will find flowers, both large and petite, stars, wavy lines and even a printed plaid in the group. While the line is named for a Michigan town, my favorite coordinating pattern for the group is named Nantucket. The 67 1/2” x 67 1/2” quilt features bold pieced stars and lots of small pieced Nine Patch blocks. What a wonderful beach house accent it would make! I truly hate to write this last bit - Laurie is retiring, thus this is the last Minick and Simpson Moda fabric collection. The group is wonderful, a true tribute to her long design career with Moda!

Crazy Eights Ruler & Crazy Quilt As You Go

Friday ~ October 4th ~ 10:30am-12:30pm

and Friday ~ October 25th ~ 10:30am-2:00pm

This two session class combines two techniques for a delightful, unique quilt. In the first session you will learn to use the Crazier Eights templates to cut and piece 16” x 16” blocks. Three weeks later, after you have pieced and quilted your blocks using the specialty stitches on your sewing machine, you will return for the second session. At that point, you will learn an amazing technique to sash your finished blocks, turning them into a finished quilt ready for binding.

Free Motion Machine Quilting

Wednesday ~ October 23rd ~ 10:30am-1:30pm

Learning to free motion quilt allows you to quickly complete your projects - so very liberating! As with any machine technique, setting up your sewing machine properly is a must. Class will begin there and then move on to the detailed instructions you need to practice this essential technique.

Mystery ~ Table Runner

Saturday ~ October 26th ~ 12:00pm-3:30pm

Do you have a charm pack languishing in your sewing space? Maybe it includes fall prints, or holiday prints, or who knows what! Consider pulling your favorite one from the pile for a mystery runner. During the session you will work secret step by secret step to create a 12 1/2” x 40 1/2” runner (of course the option exists to make the runner longer or shorter if you choose). Work on perfecting your cutting and piecing skills as the mystery reveals itself over the course of the afternoon!
