We’ve had a four legged guest in our house this week. He’s quite adorable, and definitely in charge. Earlier in the week, I got him into his harness and we stepped out the door. At that point he planted his little feet firmly on the front porch and refused to move. Neighbors who caught our interaction were probably giggling… There I was trying to coax him by explaining it was wet out, not raining, and he really needed a walk. He didn’t budge, so I gave in and we headed back inside. About six minutes later, the torrential rain storm began. We might have made it halfway down the street before getting completely soaked had we walked… I’m now thinking he should have a job in weather forecasting. His prediction was perfect, his vocabulary was the issue!

Wishing you sunny skies and great walks this week,

Mary Beth

Did you know September is National Sewing Month?

National Sewing Month was first marked in September, 1982 with a proclamation by Ronald Reagan. The declaration acknowledged “the importance of home sewing to our Nation”. I think I should spend the month acknowledging how important home sewing is to me - basically, to my sanity! How about you?! I plan to spend plenty of time with my machine during September. So much time, I will need things like new machine needles, machine oil, a tiny tool to get the lint out of my machine’s bobbin housing,... These items have found their way into the goodie basket we’ve created to mark the month - a goodie basket you could win! Be sure to enter the drawing when you visit during September!

You could also celebrate the month by joining us for ~

dream-quilt image

Delightful Dreams is the newest group to arrive from QT Fabrics. The collections' 13 year old designer, Josie, described herself as silly, hyper, chatty, crafty,..., in addition she was a wonderful artist in many mediums. 50% of the proceeds of Josie’s fabric line will benefit Quilts for Kids, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing comfort through quilts to kids with cancer (like Josie) and other illnesses. Her artwork for the group is whimsical, colorful and bold - a true testament to her style and spirit. I’ve used the prints for a version of Framed (I’ve worked the quilt so that it finishes 50” x 50”, thus it can become a piece for a child via Comfort Cases in the coming year). The simple quilt becomes something special with the addition of her artwork. The piece requires six half yard cuts of fabric, a bit of cutting, and a bit of time. What a wonderful tribute it would be if your quilt made with Delightful Dreams brought a smile to the face of a young person.

Fabric $12.80 per yard  See these fabrics online...

Upcoming classes

Block Resizing

Saturday ~ September 14th ~ 11:00am-12:30pm

Renae began showing resized versions of our pieced Saturday Sampler blocks several months ago. Everyone was amazed by the pieces and wondered how she made them. You’ll be happy to hear, you can now find out how it’s done in her new class! You will look at three different blocks and figure how to make them in new sizes - both smaller and larger. Resizing a block allows you to make a smaller version for a mini quilt or pillow, or allows you to make a block larger to make a larger quilt without affecting the overall look of the pattern. This is information everyone will find useful!

Fee: $15.00 (please bring paper and pencil to class)

Mega Star

Friday ~ September 20th ~ 10:30am-2:30pm

I have been intrigued by traditional Lone Star quilts for years. Diamond after diamond, stitched one to the next, sometimes with perfect points, other times not - but always striking. Brigitte Heitland has released a new pattern that turns the old fashioned design into a contemporary stunner. In class you will turn 2 1/2” strips into the diamonds that make up the Mega Star. We will cover cutting, pinning, stitching, and pressing techniques that will help you create a star that lays flat, and showcases beautifully matched seams!

Fee $28.00 (pattern and fabric required - supply list will be shared when you register for class)
