Greetings!
Our neighbor has planted beautiful peonies in the space between our driveways. I love the huge pink blooms, but they always seem to be the victim of a storm soon after they open. After a trip to the Bronx Botanical Garden, I now want to plant lots more! I had no idea there were so many varieties. The single, double and Japanese varieties in deep red, to pink and white lined a long walkway - an incredible display! We even found out how the Botanical Garden assures they are supported, even in wet weather - nifty metal rings topped with a circle of metal lattice hide in the foliage. I think I should head back in a few weeks to see how the garden looks after the flowers are done blooming… Or, I suppose I could just see a photo of the spot, but what fun would that be?!
I hope you have time to stop and enjoy the beauty of a garden this week.
See you soon,
Mary Beth

I spend some seriously focused time stitching before the first Saturday of each month! Those of you registered will find packets ready for your pieced Saturday Sampler project, Dear Jen, and My Favorite Color is Moda on June 5th. It is a varied lineup, each a fantastic project. If you missed these pieces, but would like to work something wonderful little by little, watch for information about new block of the week and block of the month programs in the next online letter!

M&S Textiles sent several new Australian pieces. The artwork featured is created by truly talented Aborigianl artists. Look for the tags that describe the inspiration for the vibrant colors and patterns that make up the prints. I appreciate the prints even more as I study their origin! Use these prints as the focus of your next project, or add them to your collection - either way, they are invaluable.
Fabric $12.30 per yard

As we approach the warm days of summer, we have a new collection to share that celebrates a breezy winter day! The cheerful, modern prints of Amanda Murphy’s Winter Village are irresistible. I pieced a block using the turquoise swirling dots and lines this morning, and plan to make blocks with the green and red later today. Next up will be figuring how to add them to the village buildings from the panel to make a whimsical winter quilt…
Fabric $11.30 per yard, panel $7.85

I thought you might like a look at the wonderful felt flowers Kathie made with the help of instructions from “Felt Flower Workshop”. The book is a “modern guide to crafting gorgeous plants and flowers from fabric”. The blooms are created from felt (felted wool would work, too). The volume begins with a short introduction to the author, and then moves on to simple lessons for making flowers, leaves, and stems. I know Kathie loves making them, they might be your next new fiber craft addiction, too!
Book $24.95

New patterns are tucked in displays all over the shop. “Whirl” caught my eye as I stepped into the shop this morning. Instructions for baby to queen size are included in the little booklet you will find in the pattern bag. The design is made up of traditional pieced, and simple foundation pieced units. The supply list suggests charm packs for the rainbow of color that makes up the stars, but pieces cut from your collection will work just as well. I was drawn to what appear to be large gray diamonds running through the quilt - in reality, that is an illusion created by the quilting lines! This is a striking art quilt that can be created by those of all skill levels!
Pattern $10.50
